Allegedly crooked cop no longer up on the witness stand

Officer Richard Fiorito, who has been accused of falsifying numerous DUI allegations in order to increase his overtime pay during court appearances, will no longer be used as a witness for DUI cases by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.
Fiorito’s beat was the Boystown area, and he arrested a number of persons after they were leaving gay bars. Twenty-one additional plaintiffs have signed on to a federal civil lawsuit against Fiorito, doubling its size.
Though Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez had ordered a grand jury investigation into Fiorito’s arrests back in March, she had continued to use him as a witness in DUI cases, much to the chagrin of community activists. There has not yet been an indictment against Fiorito.
ABC7 this week debuted more video footage of Fiorito’s arrests—footage that runs counter to testimony that he had given in court.
A spokesperson for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office told ABC7 that the office had acknowledged that Fiorito no longer had any credibility as a witness and would no longer be used as a witness for the prosecution.
Fiorito has been on desk duty since October.

About time. Officer Fiorito preyed upon gay men in the Lakeview/Boystown area. Glad to see something is finally being done.
The State's Attorney needs to do more of this. How many times was Officer Fiorito impeached on the stand (shown to be lying) through his own reports? And yet, case after case, the State's Attorney put him on the stand.
There is a financial incentive for officers to make more arrests - overtime! That's right, officers get paid extra for going to court. There should be suspicion around all officers who have high volume DUI arrests.
Crooked Cop/Incompetent States Attorney
Anita Alvarez' continued support of a criminal cop is execusable. If she doesn't indict Richard Fiorito for his crimes against gays and other innocent people, then every good citizen must show up at their polling place at the next election to voice dissatisfaction for her performance. Allegedly she has voiced her opinion that Fiorito no longer possesses credibility. Perhaps, with her obvious favoritism for a crooked cop above the complaints of good, taxpaying citizens, she too has lost credibility.
Fiorito must know someone
Fiorito must know someone that knows Anita, or must have some really good dirt on her for her to be willing to allow all of these people to be charged with crimes by someone she knows is lying.... At least I hope that's what it is. The only other alternative is that she wants us gays to be locked-up just for leaving a gay bar.
No Credibility
Anita admits the officer has no credibility, but has had him testifying on the stand for 7 months AFTER she started her investigation?!? Stop trying to play both sides, Anita! We need to know, Anita- for someone who campaigned on the basis that you would prosecute crooked cops, why is it ok to have someone that targets gays for false arrests on the stand- AFTER you KNOW he's lying??? If you don't indict, I guess that gives us our answer.
Do the right thing
Put this cop away. He's worsening an already bad Chicago Police reputations!
Anita and the Dirty Cop
The State's Attorney would have indicted this pig months ago if he was targeting any other minority. She gets away with doing nothing because we are second class citizens. We must demand indictment. Any first year law student knows that there is nothing easier than getting a grand jury to return an indictment. If Anita Alvarez can't just show the videos to the jurors and get an indictment, then we need a new State's Attorney. We are watching you, Anita!!!
